Psychotherapist in Edinburgh - Perry Psychotherapy

i’m Mairi

Edinburgh-Based Art therapist

I’m a qualified art therapist supporting children, young people, and adults through a gentle and creative approach. I am a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

I offer in person or online sessions at a cost of £60 per hour. You do not need any previous experience or skills in art for art therapy.

My aim is to offer a calm, supportive space where you (or your child) can begin to feel more understood and less alone. Art therapy can help express thoughts and feelings that are hard to put into words. Through creative, non-verbal approaches, we can explore what’s going on beneath the surface in a way that feels safe and natural.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic thinking: gentle, depth-focused work that looks beneath the surface, exploring patterns, emotions, and experiences that may be influencing life today. I support clients to make meaning of their inner world at a pace that feels safe, using art as a bridge to insight and healing

What Is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative activities—like drawing, painting, or sculpting—to support mental and emotional well-being. It focuses on the process, not artistic skill, allowing people to express feelings, reduce stress, and gain insight in a safe, non-verbal way.

Guided by a trained art therapist, sessions can help with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and personal growth, and can be done individually or in groups. Simply put, art therapy turns creativity into a tool for healing and self-discovery.
